  • Dr Reuben Wong K M, MD, is a gastroenterologist specializing in reflux and swallowing difficulties, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), gut microbiota, chronic constipation, and diarrhoea. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore’s (NUS) Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and a Visiting Consultant at the National University Hospital (NUH). He is also the President of the Singapore IBS Support Group.
  • Dr Reuben Wong K M graduated from NUS with an MBBS in 1998 and an MRCP in 2004. In 2008, he was accredited by the Ministry of Health as a gastroenterologist and accepted as a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine. He is also a Royal College of Physicians Fellow. Dr Wong spent 18 years in the public service and worked as a Senior Consultant and Associate Professor at NUH before transitioning to private practice.
  • Dr Reuben Wong K M received subExpert In training at the University of North Carolina (UNC) under a MOH-funded HMDP scholarship. He developed his skills in the management of complex functional gastrointestinal disorders in a multidisciplinary setting while being mentored by Professors Douglas Drossman and William Whitehead of the Rome Foundation. He also received training in esophageal motility and anorectal manometry testing.
  • Upon his return to Singapore, Dr Wong established the Functional Gastroenterology Clinic and served as Clinical Director of the Gastrointestinal Motility Laboratory at NUH, where he pioneered the use of High Resolution Manometry in the diagnosis and therapy of esophageal diseases.
  • Dr Reuben Wong K M is the author of a number of peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. He is also an invited reviewer for a variety of medical journals, both domestic and foreign. His research and publications cover a broad range of topics, from gastrointestinal disorders to cancer screening and physician accessibility. His primary works, however, continue to focus on gastrointestinal motility, neuro-gastroenterology, and irritable bowel syndrome.
  • Dr Wong is a frequent speaker at international scientific conferences and has presented his findings at international conferences. Apart from research funds, he has received numerous local and international honors, including three Young Investigator Awards, a MOH Quality Improvement Merit Award, and a Leadership in Academic Medicine Award. Dr Wong is currently a faculty member of the International Anorectal Physiology Workgroup, which is tasked with the responsibility of developing a new vocabulary and standards for High Resolution Anorectal Manometry. He is also a member of Singapore’s National Colorectal Cancer Screening Committee, which is charged with improving colorectal cancer screening in the country.
  • Dr Wong’s dedication to patient care has earned him numerous honours and medals, including the EXSA Gold and Sunny Side Up care awards. He is fluent in English, Mandarin, Bahasa Indonesia, and a variety of other languages.
  • His commitment to public activism has led him to serve as President of the Singapore IBS Support Group. He also volunteers with the St Andrew’s Home for the Aged and the St Andrew’s Cathedral Servers’ Guild.
