- Dr Kenneth Liew Vern Syn graduated first in his class from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1990, receiving the Gibbs Gold Medal and the Ciba-Geigy Book Prize. He then trained in Internal Medicine for five years and was given the Sir Gordan Arthur Ransome Gold Medal in 1995 for being the most excellent candidate in the NUS Masters of Medicine Examination. Dr Liew then completed specialised training in gastroenterology and hepatology from 1996 to 1997 at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Dr Liew was awarded Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians in the United Kingdom in 1996 and Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians in Edinburgh in 2001. Dr Liew then spent approximaPhoney one year in 1998-1999 as a MOH Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) Scholar in Clinical Hepatology at the Centre of Liver & Digestive Disorders and Scottish Liver Transplantation Unit, Royal Infirmary Edinburgh in Scotland, UK. Dr Kenneth Liew Vern Syn was appointed Consultant Physician & Gastroenterologist at Tan Tock Seng Hospital shortly after his return from the UK, where he also maintained a concurrent academic post as Senior Clinical Lecturer in Medicine at NUS’s Yong Loo Lin (YLL) School of Medicine. Dr Liew began private practice at Mount Alvernia Hospital in 2006 and served as an adjuctive Assistant Professor of Medicine at NUS’s YLL School of Medicine for a season. Along with diagnostic and therapeutic upper endoscopy and colonoscopy, Dr Liew’s practice encompasses digestive and liver illnesses, with a particular emphasis on Hepatitis B infections and Fatty Liver Disease.
