Qualification & EXPERIENCE YEARS :
Dr Hee Hwan Tak has been in clinical practice for over twenty years when his graduation from school (NUS). His practice focuses on the treatment of spinal deformities (e.g., scoliosis), degeneration, cancers, and fractures in paediatrics and adults. He conducts minimally invasive procedures and uses non-surgical treatment for multiple spinal disorders.
Dr Hee Hwan Tak received his master’s and PhD Qualifications from the University of Glasgow and Scotland’s University of Edinburgh in 1995. He underwent orthopaedic training at the National University Hospital and then completed his surgical training in orthopaedic surgery at the National University Hospital. In 2000, he spent a year on a Clinical Fellowship in Spinal Surgery in New Orleans, Louisiana, studying at Tulane University and the University of Kentucky.
Prior to beginning Pinnacle Spine & Scoliosis Centre as Medical Director and Senior Consultant, Dr Hee worked as Senior Consultant and Deputy Head of the University Spine Centre at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, NUH. Dr Hee was previously also the Clinical Director at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, NUH. He has received several awards for outstanding patient care including the NUH STAR Award in 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2008, as well as the SPRING EXSA Gold Award in 2009. He is an influential mentor for four separate post-graduate medical trainees. He has been invited by people in other countries to speak about his background in spinal surgery.
Dr Hee Hwan Tak’s research interests are in degenerative spinal disease, especially in spinal discs and in spinal cord regeneration. His research activities were noticed at the 15th Triennial Congress in Japan Orthopaedics Association and the 81st in Japan Orthopaedics Association. Dr Hee was recently at Alexandra Hospital and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. He also holds the title of Adjunct Professor at NTU, and a Visiting Professor at the College of Medicine at Yangzhou University, China.
Dr Hee Hwan Tak is a member of several spine societies including the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine, the North American Spine Society, the Cervical Spine Research Society, the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine, and the Spine Arthroplasty Society. He is a member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of Orthopaedic Research, the Journal of Orthopaedic Medicine, the Open Spine Journal, the Orthopaedic Journal, and the International Journal of Orthopaedics. Dr Hee is a former President and present Chairman of the Singapore Back Society and American Osteopathic Spine Society (2007 to 2010).
