Biodata
Dr Clin Prof Ang Chong Lye, a Clinical Professor, graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Singapore in 1979. He completed his specialized training in Ophthalmology at the Singapore General Hospital, earning the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow, in Ophthalmology in 1985.
In 1989-90, Dr Clin Prof Ang Chong Lye received a prestigious Ministry of Health (Singapore) fellowship for post-graduate training at the Lion’s Eye Hospital, Western Australia, focusing on Diseases of the Vitreous and Retina.
With the establishment of the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC), Dr. Ang joined as clinical faculty in 1991 and served as the head of the Vitreo-retina Department until 2000. Subsequently, he assumed the role of Director at SNEC from 2000 to 2008.
In 2008, Dr Clin Prof Ang Chong Lye took on the role of Chief Executive Officer of the Singapore General Hospital and concurrently served as the Deputy Group CEO of Singapore Health Services. He completed his term in 2017 and returned to full-time clinical practice at SNEC.
Recognized for his contributions, Dr Clin Prof Ang Chong Lye was conferred the Fellowship ad hominem by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2001. He also received the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) Outstanding Award for his work in preventing blindness.
Dr Clin Prof Ang Chong Lye played a pivotal role in medical leadership, serving as the Chairman of the Specialist Training Committee (STC) for Ophthalmology (Ministry of Health) from 2001 to 2010. Additionally, Dr Clin Prof Ang Chong Lye served as the Chairman of the Resident Advisory Committee (RAC) for Ophthalmology from 2010 to 2013 and continues to contribute as a Committee Member in the RAC (Ophthalmology).
