Biodata
- Dr Amitabha Lahiri received his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1999 and his Expert In accreditation in Hand Surgery in 2008, for which he received a gold medal from the College of Surgeons. He was then offered a one-year fellowship at the University Hospital of South Manchester, during which time he simultaneously finished his Master’s Qualification in Tissue Engineering from Manchester University.
- Dr Amitabha Lahiri has over 15 EXPERIENCE YEARS YEARS treating a variety of clinical disorders involving the hand. His research interests include hand injuries, compressive neuropathies, rheumatoid arthritis, and microsurgical regeneration of the hand.
- Prior to joining Raffles Hospital, Dr Lahiri worked as a Senior Consultant in the National University Hospital’s Department of Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery and as an Assistant Professor in the National University of Singapore’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery (NUS).
- Dr Lahiri has multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals as a result of his research on carpal tunnel syndrome and hand sensory function. He was given National Medical Research Council research funds in 2013 and 2015, and recently completed a major research project with NUS’s Singapore Hospital of Neurotechnology on the creation of bionic brain interfaces. He is a co-inventor of a computer-assisted microsurgery simulation system that was awarded a complete US patent and has been adopted by numerous teaching centers worldwide.
