Biodata
- Dr Vaikunthan Rajaratnam graduated with distinction in pathology from the University of Malaya in 1980 and completed his initial orthopaedic surgery training at the University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC). He then continued his training in advanced plastic, hand, and microsurgery in the United Kingdom and the United States. He began his academic career in 1986 at the University of Malaya and later became a medical entrepreneur by founding Malaysia’s first private trauma center. He maintained his academic affiliations with the UMMC as an honorary consultant and worked to develop hand surgery and public and physician Qualification in health and medicine in Malaysia through his leadership roles in a number of professional organizations, including the Malaysian Orthopaeidc Association, the Malaysian Society for Hand Surgery, the Malaysian Osteoporosis Society, and the Malaysian Healthy Lifestyle Association. Dr Vaikunthan Rajaratnam spent the last decade in the United Kingdom’s National Health Service as a senior consultant hand surgeon in Birmingham, with a specialized interest in peripheral nerve and brachial plexus surgery. Recently, his primary focus has been on developing the Expert In of hand surgery in the United Kingdom and teaching doctors. His research interests include hand fracture fixations and surgical Qualification approaches. He founded a master’s program in hand therapy and a doctoral MBA program. His love for teaching and Qualification has brought him around the world to offer surgery and surgical training workshops and lectures. He continues his life-long adventure as a student by pursuing a Master’s Qualification in Medical Qualification at the University of Dundee in the United Kingdom. Dr Vaikunthan Rajaratnam relocated to Singapore as a Senior Consultant in the fall of 2011. He is a fundamental faculty member of the local Orthopaedic Residency program.
