Biography

Dr. Timothy Lim Yong Kuei is a specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology with a special interest in the management of gynecologic cancers. He was instrumental in developing minimally invasive gynecologic oncology surgery as a standard of care at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH), as well as in initiating ICG-NIR sentinel lymph node biopsy services for cancers of endometrium in 2016. He is also well-versed in fertility-sparing gynecologic oncology surgery and has performed more than 12 abdominal radical trachelectomy procedures for early cervical cancer at KKH. Dr. Lim was previously director and senior consultant gynecologist of the KKH Department of Gynecologic Oncology from 2014 to 2019, as well as chair of the KKH Division of Obstetrics and Gynecology (O&G) from October 2015 to November 2019. He was an Associate Professor adjunct at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Duke-NUS School of Medicine, and Nanyang Technological University Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine from 2017 to 2019. Dr. Lim graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1998 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of the United Kingdom, O&G, in 2003. He began his gynecologic oncology fellowship training at the Department of Gynecologic Oncology at KKH in 2006. He was awarded the Health Manpower Development Program (HMDP) award from the Ministry of Health for training in minimally invasive gynecological oncology surgery in France from 2007 to 2008. He also obtained his master in Medical Law and Ethics from the University of Edinburgh in 2016. As a clinical researcher, Dr. Lim has authored and co-authored more than 40 peer-reviewed articles. His main research interest is cancer of the genital tract, as well as complex pelvic surgery, including minimally invasive cancer surgery. He has also been invited to give numerous lectures at both local and regional scientific meetings. His passion for education has earned him several teaching awards for both medical students and residents (O & G). He was course director of the colposcopy and pre-invasive disease management program at Singhealth O&G ACP from 2016 to 2019.

Dr. Lim also devotes his time to professional education serving on the boards of the O&G Society of Singapore (OGSS) and the Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology Society of Singapore (SCCPS) for the past 10 years. He served as honorary president of both societies from 2019 to 2020. He has a great passion for public health education, especially in the prevention and treatment of gynecologic cancers, and has helped organize numerous public health talks and professional O&G conferences, including the 2018 RCOG World Congress in the last decade. He has been a volunteer doctor at the Cancer Society of Singapore (SCS) for many years and is the chair of the Women’s Gynecological Cancer Awareness Committee at SCS since 2014.

He is also a committee member of the Cervical Screen Singapore, Health Promotion Board, as well as co-chair of its 2017/2018 Cervical Screening Implementation subcommittee. Dr. Lim’s specialty of interest in gynecologic oncology.
