Biography

Dr. Teo Yi Hong specializes in orthopedics. He graduated in 1998 from the National University of Ireland and has been a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the UK since 2001. He graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2002 with an M.D. (Orthopedics) and went on to complete his advanced specialist training in Orthopedics in 2006: The FRCSEd (Orth) examination conducted jointly with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Scotland. Dr. Teo also received the prestigious NUH Young Doctor Award for his work in Stem Cell Therapy in 2003 and has promoted a Clinical Fellowship in Joint Replacement Surgery in Melbourne, Australia, following the award of HMDP (High Manpower Development Program) Scholarship by the Ministry of Health, Singapore. He is currently the Head of Adult Reconstruction, Department of Orthopedics at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. His expertise covers management and orthopedics with subspecialties in hip and knee replacement. He has extensive experience in Computer Assisted Orthopedics (CAOS) and the use of individualized minimally invasive hip and knee replacement (MIS). Dr. Teo was among the first pioneers in the field of patient-specific devices: one of the latest developments in personalized joint replacement that enables cutting-edge precision in knee replacement implants according to the specific requirements of each patient. He performed 250 such surgeries between November 2010 and December 2012. His work has therefore led to significant improvements in patients’ mobility and quality of life. Dr. Teo is a Clinical Appointed Lecturer in Orthopedics for the National University of Singapore School of Medicine and a core faculty member of the NHG Residency Program. He has been published extensively in peer-reviewed medical journals and is also a noted speaker at regional and international orthopedic conferences. Teo is a passionate long-distance runner who is passionate about helping people regain mobility to live life to the fullest, no matter how young or old they are. Having grown up in Singapore, he is fluent in English and Mandarin as well as is conversant with the Hokkien, Teochew, Cantonese and Malay languages.

Dr. Teo’s specialist interests are knee joint replacement, robotic knee replacement, total knee replacement, hip replacement, sports surgery, trauma surgery, and monocondylar knee replacement.
