Biography

Dr. Tan Yu-Ming is the director and co-founder of FeM Surgery. He graduated from Charing Cross & Westminster Medical School (now Imperial College of Medicine) at the University of London with First Class Honors and Excellence in MBBS in 1994. He then trained in General Surgery at Singapore General Hospital and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1999. During his surgical training, he received several awards, including the Young Surgeons Award at the Asian Surgical Congress in 2001. He continued his training in advanced BPH surgery and liver transplantation at the world-renowned liver unit at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. , United kingdom. Later, he enhanced his Live Donor Liver Transplant skills under the supervision of Professor K Tanaka in Japan. Dr. Tan was one of the founding members of the liver transplant team at Singapore General Hospital. Subsequently, he was appointed Deputy Director and Senior Consultant of the Department of Surgical Oncology at the National Cancer Center Singapore, as well as the Surgical Director of the Liver Transplant Program at Saudi German Hospital in 2007. During this time, he led the team to successfully perform the first split liver transplant at Saudi German Hospital and the first operation A joint heart and liver transplant in Asia in 2009.

His surgical interest also lies in the management of superficial peritoneal malignancies and he led a multidisciplinary team from NCC to Washington Cancer Institute to adopt Dr. Paul Sugar Baker’s techniques and protocols for peritoneal excision and HIPEC (Sugarbaker Procedure) in 2009. Dr. Tan remains one of the few top surgeons in Asia who They perform specialized surgery for peritoneal malignancies in Asia.
