Biography

Dr. Yvonne Loh is a hematologist with a special interest in hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) and acute leukemia. She is also one of the few hematologists in the region with specific training in HCT for serious autoimmune diseases.

Dr. Loh established the hematopoietic cell transplant program in 2015 at Raffles Hospital, and in her 7 years there, she grew the program, with many patients from Singapore, Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Before leaving Raffles Hospital, she was vice president of the cancer group, chair of the Blood and Tissue Transfusion Committee, co-chair of the Infection Control Committee, and a member of the Transplantation Committee. She is a member of the Hematopoietic Stem Cell/Bone Marrow Transplantation Working Committee of the Ministry of Health, which is responsible for drafting the standards and protocols that govern HCT activity under the Medical Care Law. She is also a member of the American Society of Hematology and the American Society for Transplantation and Cell Therapy. From 2007 to 2019, Dr. Loh served as a board member and voluntary medical adviser to the Bone Marrow Donor Program, a public institute that operates Singapore’s voluntary hematopoietic cell donor registry and coordinates transplant activity with international registrations. She also volunteers her time at HealthServe, a charity that provides health care to migrant workers in Singapore. Dr. Loh graduated from the National University of Singapore Medical School in 1997 and was on the Dean’s List in both her first and final professional exams. He obtained his fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians (UK) in 2001 and completed his specialist training in Hematology at Singapore General Hospital in 2005. He was awarded a fellowship at the Academy of Medicine, Hematology Chapter in 2005 and received the Singhealth Health Manpower Development Award in 2006 to continue his training at Northwestern University in Chicago, a world leader in the field of transplants for autoimmune diseases. Before entering private practice, Dr. Loh was a Principal Consultant in the Department of Hematology and Medical Director of the SGH HSCT program, as well as Director of its Acute Leukemia Service. In that role, she was responsible for designing procedures to expedite the care of acute leukemia patients from diagnosis to allogeneic HCT. Dr. Loh was the principal investigator for a number of transplants and acute leukemia studies was actively involved in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels and served as a clinical professor at the YLL School of Medicine from 2009 to 2012. Dr. Loh is often invited to speak at local and regional meetings in the areas of acute leukemia, transplantation, and post-transplant complications. He has also presented her research on her at international hematology conferences. She has served on the advisory boards of many pharmaceutical companies and has been invited to speak at many educational events. She has numerous publications, including leading peer-reviewed journals such as Blood, JAMA, Bone Marrow Transplantation, and Lancet Neurology.
