Qualification & EXPERIENCE YEARS :
Dr Tan Yew Oo formerly Professor of Medicine at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Faculty of Medicine and Head of Medicine at the National University Hospital (NUH) and Head of the Hematology-Oncology Division. From 1978 to 1993, he was a tenured faculty member of NUS and he was instrumental in setting up the Expert In of Medical Oncology at the Singapore General Hospital and later the National University Hospital during that tenure. He was a mentor and instructor to many doctors in Singapore, including many famous medical oncologists.
Dr Tan Yew Oo remained involved in medical Qualification and postgraduate training after he went into private practice. He worked on the Medical Oncology Professional Training Committee, the Academy of Medicine/MOH, Singapore, the Chairman of the National Cancer Care Committee, the Medical Research Council, and the Health Science Authority consultant.
Dr Tan Yew Oo was a Master of Medicine (M. Med) examiner and served on the Singapore Health Services Board of Directors from 2000 to 2006. He remains active in clinical cancer research and continues to engage in new anti-cancer agents in Phase III clinical trials. In multiple international phase III clinical trials, he enrolled patients using PTK 787 in Confirm 1, lapatinib in breast cancer, IPASS in Iressa NSCLC, and E7389 in breast cancer. He is recruiting patients with Neratinib for breast cancer, oral talactoferrin for lung cancer, and nimotumumab for metastatic brain disease for multiple ongoing trials.
Dr Tan Yew Oo has written widely and has been invited to talk at medical meetings at regional and international level. At many local and regional medical conferences and workshops, he continues to be invited to lecture.
Lung cancer, breast cancer, gastrointestinal cancers, lymphomas, and liver cancer are among Dr. Tan’s clinical concerns.
