Dr Tan Seang Beng is an orthopedic surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital.
His key fields of research are MIS and spinal deformity.
For over twenty five years, he has given advisory services for the department of orthopaedics at the Singapore General Hospital . (SGH). He has completed more than 5,000 spinal operations to date.
At SGH, Dr Tan was the director of SGH’s orthopaedic service from 2005 to 2018, and head of SGH’s department of orthopaedics from 2002 to 2012. He continues to be associated with SGH as a consultant.
Dr Tan Seang Beng was a director of the department of paediatric orthopaedics in a hospital since 2001, until 2003.
He completed his orthopaedic training in Singapore and worked as a postdoctoral fellow in spine surgery at the Texas Christian University Medical School.
He is a part-time faculty member at Duke-NUS Medical School.
He has a great passion for teaching medical students, orthopaedic patients, local and international surgeons, and has had a major role in the setup of the musculoskeletal programme in Singapore.
Dr. Morimoto is affiliated with many organisations including the Pacific Asian Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, the International Group for Advancement of Spinal Research, and the AO Lumbar Technical Committee.
He served as the president of Singapore’s Peripheral Nervous System Society during 2018/2019.
He has been published in over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals, and is 1 of 6 consultants globally for Johnson & Johnson in the development of the next generation of MIS.
Dr Tan Seang Beng received recognition from the Scoliosis Research Society in 1996. Dr. He was a keen advocate for outcomes testing and evidence-based surgery. He was Director of the SGH’s Orthopaedic Diagnostic centre 1998-2018.
In 2013, he won the SingHealth Outstanding Clinician Award as well as the Pingat Bakti Setia from the Medical Council of Singapore (MCS).
