Associate Professor Benita Tan is Head of Breast Service and Senior Consultant in the Department of General Surgery at Sengkang General Hospital and current Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Sengkang General Hospital.

A/Professor Tan is a Senior Consultant in the Department of Breast Surgery, at Singapore General Hospital and the Department of Surgical Oncology, the National Cancer Centre, Singapore. A/Professor Benita Yong holds the concurrent appointment of Associate Professor at Lu Lin School of Medicine, NUS and Associate Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School. He is currently serving in various administrative positions at SingHealth and Sengkang General Hospital such as Academic Medicine Council Member for Surgery ACP, Office of Academic and Clinical Development, Academic Development Department, Duke-NUS, and others.

A/Prof Tan graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1995 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery. He trained as a general surgeon, completed the membership examination of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh in 1999 and obtained a Master of Medicine (Surgery). , the National University of Singapore after one year in 2000. He continued advanced specialty training in general surgery and in 2003 was recognized as a specialist in general surgery by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (General Surgery) fellowship examination. , before becoming a sub-specialist in breast surgery specializing in breast cancer surgery. He received his Doctor of Philosophy degree in 2013 from the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore.

A/Prof Tan sees, manages, and provides treatment recommendations and surgical expertise for a range of breast diseases, both benign and malignant. Experienced in a wide range of breast procedures, he performs breast biopsy including vacuum-assisted biopsy (VAB) and breast cancer surgery, from breast conserving cancer surgery to breast-sparing, nipple-sparing and endoscopic mastectomy for breast reconstruction. She works with a multi-disciplinary team including medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, breast cancer nurses, and occupational therapists to provide our breast cancer patients with a holistic and individualized care plan they deserve.
