Dr Karnik has previously worked at a variety of institutions, including as a visiting clinician at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, United States, and as an Honorary Registrar at Freeman Hospital, University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, United Kingdom.

Dr Rajiv has the uncommon distinction of having won six gold medals in the M.B.B.S., M.D., and DM (Cardiology) examinations at Bombay University.
