Biodata

Dr Clin Assoc Prof Doric Wong serves as a senior consultant in the Surgical Retina Department at the Singapore National Eye Centre. Beyond his clinical role, he assumes leadership responsibilities, chairing the Centre’s Professionalism and Ethics Council, leading the Health Performance Office, and serving as Vice Chair of the Quality Assurance Committee. His tenure as Head of the Retina Service and later the Retina Centre extended from 2005 to 2016. Additionally, he contributed to strategic planning as a member of the Centre’s Strategic Planning Committee/Executive Committee from 2008 to 2017.

Representing Singapore on the Council of the ASEAN Ophthalmological Society, Clinical Associate Professor Wong holds the position of Chair of the Society’s Scientific Committee. Moreover, he actively participates as a member of the Singapore Medical Council’s Complaints Panel.

Dr Clin Assoc Prof Doric Wong pursued his foundational medical and ophthalmology training in Singapore, followed by a surgical-medical retina fellowship at the Singapore National Eye Centre in 1997-1998. He expanded his expertise as an international fellow at the Manhattan Eye Ear and Throat Hospital in New York from 1998 to 1999.

Specializing in diseases of the retina, Clinical Associate Professor Wong’s clinical and research endeavors concentrate on surgical interventions for conditions such as retinal detachments, diabetic retinopathy, and macular disorders. He manages a spectrum of retinal issues, including proliferative vitreoretinopathy, trauma, and retinal surgery combined with anterior segment disease. In the realm of medical retina, he addresses disorders like age-related macular degeneration, choroidal neovascular disease, diabetic retinopathy, and other retinal conditions.

While contributing to the General Cataract and Comprehensive Ophthalmology Department, cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation remains a significant component of Clinical Associate Professor Wong’s clinical practice.

Beyond his contributions in Singapore, he extends his expertise as a visiting ophthalmologist to the Franco-Vietnamese Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Further, he offers advisory insights to various pharmaceutical and medical equipment companies, showcasing his commitment to advancing eye care beyond clinical practice.
