Dr Bipasha Mukherjee studied Ophthalmology at the Calcutta National Medical College & Hospital and the Provincial Hospital of Ophthalmology, Kolkata.
In May 1999, she received an MS (Ophthalmology) from the renowned Aligarh Muslim University. In November 2000, she passed the Basic Science Assessment by the International Council of Ophthalmology and the Diplomate of the National Board of Ophthalmology.
For six months, she earned a Fellowship in General Ophthalmology at Aravind Eye Hospital and Post Graduate Hospital of Ophthalmology, Madurai, followed by a Fellowship in Orbit & Oculoplasty at Aravind Eye Hospitals, Madurai. Cataract Micro Surgery Training (Ratan Tata Fellowship) in Phacoemulsification, Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai. From 2001 to 2005, she held the position of Deputy Medical Superintendent and Ophthalmologist Consultant at M.P.Birla Eye Clinic, Kolkata, in collaboration with Aravind Eye Care Systems.
Dr Bipasha Mukherjee was awarded the prestigious International Council of Ophthalmology fellowships in Orbit & Oculoplasty in 2003, which she preferred to do at the University Hospital of Limoges, France, in 2003 under Prof. Jean-Paul Adenis, current President of the European Society of Oculoplastic & Reconstructive Surgeons. She has also been an Observer at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, UK, under MR J.R.O Collins & Mr. G. Rose, as well as the Ophthalmology Department of Bristol Royal Infirmary, UK. More than 30 professional meetings have taken place, both nationally and internationally, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, the European Society of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, and the International Congress of Ocular Oncology.
Dr Bipasha Mukherjee has given invited lectures at regional and national level conferences. She’s credited with several papers and poster presentations and publications. In July 2005, she joined Sankara Nethralaya as an associate consultant in the Department of Orbit, Oculoplasty & Trauma. She has been the Director of the Department since August 2009. Its fields of continued focus include cataract phacoemulsification, lacrimal and orbital surgery, cosmetic eyelid surgery, cosmetic anophthalmic socket reconstruction, as well as the repair of the traumatic eyelid and adnexal injuries.
Dr Bipasha Mukherjee is actively interested in the training of postgraduates in ophthalmology and fellows in general ophthalmology, phacoemulsification and oculoplastic; M Phil and Ph.D. students in optometry under the Elite School of Optometry, Chennai and BITS, Pilani distance Qualification programs. Her hobby is photography and travel.
