Dr Allan Fong serves as the Head of the Cataract & Comprehensive Ophthalmology Department at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). His expertise lies in Cataract Surgery, including advanced techniques such as Phacoemulsification and femtosecond-assisted cataract Surgery (FLACS), commonly known as “Bladeless” Cataract Surgery. Additionally, he specializes in the utilization of various intraocular lens implants, encompassing monofocal, multifocal, and extended range of focus lenses, as well as Toric and non-toric intraocular lens implants.

Dr. Fong’s proficiency extends to Refractive Surgery, where he excels in LASIK and ReLEx SMILE laser vision correction. His dedication to ocular surface health is evident in his work on Dry Eye Syndrome, allergic eye conditions, pterygium surgery, and the treatment of cornea infections. Beyond his specialized areas, he actively engages in General Ophthalmology and conducts eye health screenings for conditions such as Diabetic Retinopathy and Glaucoma.

A graduate of the National University of Singapore, Dr. Fong earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1999. Throughout his career, he has achieved various accolades, including the 1997/8 Gold Medal & Book Prize in Ophthalmology by NUS and the Singapore Society of Ophthalmology. Dr. Fong holds multiple Qualifications, including MRCOphth (London), MRCS (Edinburgh), Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) from NUS, and FRCS (Edinburgh). He completed a Refractive Surgery and Cornea Fellowship at the Singapore National Eye Centre and is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine (Ophthalmology), Singapore.

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr Allan Fong is deeply involved in ophthalmology Qualification, holding positions such as Clinical Assistant Professor at the SingHealth Duke-NUS Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences Academic Clinical Program. He contributes to the SingHealth Ophthalmology Residency Program and has been a Cataract Surgery Trainer at SNEC, also serving as the Course Director of the SNEC Basic Phacoemulsification Course since 2015.

Within the administration realm, Dr Allan Fong is an active member of various committees at SNEC, including the Medical Device Committee, Fellowship Coordination Committee (FCC), and the Infection Control Committee. He previously led the SNEC Balestier Branch and served as Deputy Head of the Cataract & Comprehensive Ophthalmology Department.
