Dr Yap Eng Yiat is Dr. Yap’s last name, and is an MBBS from Singapore. In medical school, he received the Beecham award for physiology.
Dr Yap Eng Yiat achieved his medical internship after his National Service prior to his postgraduate training in ophthalmology and anaesthesiology. He was based in the Medical Classification Centre of the army.
Dr Yap Eng Yiat has been a resident of ophthalmology since 1986. During this time, he was sent by the Ministry of Health on the Higher Manpower Development Plan to the United Kingdom. There, he was qualified as an ophthalmologist at The National Hospital for Ophthalmology at Moorfields Eye Hospital and the Hospital of Ophthalmology at the University of Glasgow.
Dr Yap Eng Yiat completed his medical Qualification in the United Kingdom, and since has been a medical office specialist. While he was in college, he was promoted to administrative at Tan Tock Seng hospital. Dr. Yap was chosen as part of the Higher Manpower Growth Plan program from 1991 to 1992 and received training at the Mayo Clinic in the Expert In field of retina. (After returning to the United States, Yap was promoted to senior registrar in 1992 and subsequently to consultant in 1994. In 2000, he became a consultant.)
Dr. Yap was educated In 2001 in Australia on a “Higher Manpower Development Planning Program.” He was present at the Melbourne Excimer Laser Party and the Victoria Eye and Ear Singapore to launch his seminars on retina and refractive surgery.
Dr. Yap is a graduate of the Singapore Academy of Medicine. He is a specialist in many scientific areas, including retinal disorders, paediatric ophthalmology, cataract, refractive surgery and neuro-ophthalmology. He also received the best poster award at the AAPO congress in 2001.
Besides the above, Dr. Yap has also attachments to the Wills Eye Hospital in USA for retina and paediatric ophthalmology/squint, the Private Eye Clinic in Australia for paediatric ophthalmology/squint and the Mayo Clinic in the USA for paediatric ophthalmology/squint as well as oculoplastics.
Dr. Yap is a consultant at Mount Elizabeth Hospital and has branch clinics at Bishan and Bukit Batok, as well as in private practice at Clearvision Eye Clinic at Orchard. Dr. Yap is also a Visiting Consultant to the Eye Department at TTSH.
