Qualification & EXPERIENCE YEARS :
In 1989, Dr Wong Yue Shuen graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the National University of Singapore (NUS).
In 1994, he was admitted to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh as a Fellow and finished his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery in 1999. He was then awarded an HMDP Scholarship from the Ministry of Health to study at the University of Pittsburgh and the UPMC Centre for Sports Medicine, specializing in the treatment of foot and ankle disorders. Dr Wong Yue Shuen went on to complete a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering with a concentration on Orthopaedic Biomechanics, Sports Engineering, and Rehabilitation Engineering at Nanyang Technological University. For his work in Ankle Prosthesis Design for the treatment of ankle and subtalar joint arthritis, he also received an award for ‘Outstanding Project Dissertation.’
Dr Wong Yue Shuen is a clinical professor at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and a frequent lecturer and former committee member of the Orthopaedic Surgery Specialist Training Committee. He is also an Instructor for the Advanced Trauma Life Support Course and has been a frequent lecturer at the Nanyang Polytechnic School of Health Sciences. He has written several research papers on medicines for sports and dance, absolute arthroplasty of the ankle, flat foot degenerative, diabetic foot, and clinical biomechanics. He also co-authored a chapter of a book on Complete Ankle Replacement surgical techniques.
For many journals, including Foot and Ankle International, the Singapore Medical Journal and the Journal of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, he was also a reviewer.
Dr. Wong has been working on the implementation of new methods in the treatment of slipping peroneal tendons and calcaneal fractures, treating the full spectrum of foot and ankle issues, including complete ankle replacement. Ankle instability, Achilles tendon injuries and the treatment of osteochondral conditions of the ankle are other often controlled issues.
Dr Wong Yue Shuen has special interests in foot and ankle surgery, including knee and shoulder surgery, including athletic, degenerative, dance and painful foot injuries, and sports medicine and sports surgery.
