Dr. Wong Nan Soon practices at Gleneagles Hospital and Mount Elizabeth Hospitals, Singapore, as an oncologist.

His specialist interests are breast cancer and cancer of the gastrointestinal tract.

In 2003, he completed his advanced specialist training in general medical oncology, followed by a clinical internship in breast medical oncology at the Sunnybrook and Women’s Health Science Centre in Canada, where he studied with world-renowned breast oncologists, including Professor Kathleen Pritchard.

In 2006, he was promoted to the rank of consultant and subsequently became a senior consultant and head of the breast team in the Department of Medical Oncology at the Singapore National Cancer Centre.

In 2009, at Duke University, North Carolina, USA, Dr Wong Nan Soon was awarded the prestigious Singapore National Medical Research Council overseas research fellowship to gain expertise in phase I clinical trials. He broadened his subExpert In interests to include gastrointestinal cancers during this year, and obtained further training in biostatistics and clinical research methodology.

Dr Wong Nan Soon was awarded the Novartis Oncology Young Canadian Investigator Award in 2005, participated in more than 30 local and international pharmaceutical and investigator-initiated clinical trials, and obtained a variety of research grants at the institutional and national level. He has contributed to more than 50 abstracts and articles, including the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Clinical Cancer Research and Annals of Oncology, both in local and international oncology journals.

From 2006 to 2011, he was a clinical teacher at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Singapore National University, and worked as an examiner for the final MBBS exams. He has also lectured in the area of oncology to advanced diploma nursing students at Nanyang Polytechnic’s School of Health Sciences. From 2009 to 2012, he was named as a member of the Specialist Training Committee for Medical Oncology, where he worked to ensure medical oncology training standards and as an examiner for exit exams for medical oncology.

In 2011, at Duke-NUS Medical School, he was named adjunct associate professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences.

He was the former director of public and patient Qualification, and the National Cancer Centre’s deputy director in the community engagement and philanthropy section. He was also vice-president of the Singapore Society of Oncology, a member of the board of the Singapore Chapter of Medical Oncologists, and chair of the Singapore Cancer Society subcommittee on medical care funds.

Dr Wong Nan Soon is a member of the Singapore Society of Oncology and the Singapore Hepatopancreatobiliary Association of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

Dr Wong Nan Soon has been widely published in the fields of breast cancer biology, epidemiology, experimental therapeutics, chemotherapy and endocrine therapy, as well as colorectal cancer therapy in international peer-reviewed journals and major international cancer meetings.
