  • Dr Wong Kong Min Reuben is a gastroenterologist practising at Gleneagles Hospital, Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital and Parkway East Hospital, Singapore. His clinical EXPERIENCE YEARS covers the management of reflux and swallowing problems, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), intestinal microorganism, chronic constipation and diarrhoea.
  • Dr Wong Kong Min Reuben completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery at the National University of Singapore in 1998 and became a member of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, UK in 2004. He subsequently also became a fellow of the Academy of Medicine in Singapore, and of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, UK.
  • In 2008, Dr Wong was awarded the healthcare manpower development programme (HMDP) scholarship by the Ministry of Health, Singapore to pursue subExpert In training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA. At the university’s Centre for Functional Gastrointestinal and Motility Disorders, he trained in the management of functional gastrointestinal disorders, in oesophageal motility and in anorectal manometry (to evaluate patients with constipation or faecal incontinence), under the mentorship of Dr Douglas Drossman and Dr William Whitehead.
  • Dr Wong Kong Min Reuben was formerly a senior consultant and the clinical director of the gastrointestinal motility laboratory at the National University Hospital (NUH), where he helmed the functional gastroenterology clinic. He was also the head of undergraduate Qualification for gastroenterology and hepatology. He continues to be a visiting consultant at NUH.
  • Dr Wong introduced the use of high-resolution manometry in Singapore to assess pressures in the gastrointestinal tract, which enhances the diagnosis and treatment of oesophageal disorders. He has founded the gastroenterology-psychology multidisciplinary service, which has offered an alternative treatment for irritable bowel syndrome. He was also part of the team that initiated fecal microbiota transplantation in Singapore, which is the transfer of faecal bacteria from a healthy person to a recipient.
  • Dr Wong is part of the faculty of the International Anorectal Physiology Workgroup, which drafts new language and concepts for high-resolution anorectal manometry. He is also the president of the IBS Support Group in Singapore and a member of the National Colorectal Cancer Screening Committee, which aims to improve colorectal cancer screening in Singapore. Dr Wong also volunteers on the committee for the St Andrew’s Home for the Elderly.
  • Dr Wong Kong Min Reuben has been involved in many research ventures, which have been published in major journals such as Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and the American Journal of Gastroenterology. He also frequently conducts international seminars in the field of neuro-gastroenterology, where he holds live motility demonstrations.
