Dr Wong Jen San specializes in gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary-pancreatic diseases and liver transplantation (liver, pancreas, gall bladder and bile duct).

In 1998, Dr Wong Jen San graduated from the University of Leicester, UK, with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery and obtained his early surgical training in the UK. He then completed his Advanced Specialist Training in General Surgery at Singapore General Hospital in 2008, receiving a Fellowship from the Royal Colleges of Surgeons in Edinburgh and a Fellowship in General Surgery from the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.

During his Human Manpower Development Program Clinical Fellowship in Living Donor Liver Transplantation in Japan, under Professor Shinji Uemoto at Kyoto University Hospital and Professor Yukihiro Inomata at Kumamoto University Hospital, he underwent further training in advanced hepatobiliary surgery and liver transplantation.

Dr Wong Jen San is a visiting advisor to the Singapore General Hospital liver transplant program and was involved in the earliest active liver split transplant at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) and the earliest combined heart-liver transplant in Asia in 2009. He is also one of the first surgeons to conduct SGH robotic operations on the liver and pancreas.

During his time at SGH, Dr. Wong has been actively involved in various hepatopancreaticobiliary disease research ventures, with a specific interest in liver metastases and HCC colorectal cancer.
He was a member of the AHCC06 trial Steering Committee. He is also a founding member of the Singapore Association of Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPBAS).

Dr Wong has been invited to several regional surgical conferences on hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery as a guest lecturer or speaker. He was also an invited speaker at transplant surgical workshops.
