Dr Tsang Bih Shiou Charles practices at Parkway East Hospital and Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore, as a general surgeon. In both cancer and bowel disorders, his special ties are in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) and robotic surgery.

Dr Tsang Bih Shiou Charles received a medical Qualification from the National University of Singapore in 1987 and a fellowship in surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 1993. In 1994, he completed a clinical fellowship in surgery at the Leeds General Infirmary, UK, and successfully completed an advanced residency at the University of Minnesota in colon and rectal surgery. He graduated at the top of the class and was the first non-American to win the Outstanding Resident Scholar Award from Carl E Christensen in 1997. He then successfully defended his thesis in 1998 and graduated in experimental surgery with a Master of Science Qualification. In 1999, he became a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine and an accredited General Surgery specialist.

Dr Tsang Bih Shiou Charles was the Head and Senior Physician, Division of Colorectal Surgery and Head of Surgical Oncology with the National University Cancer Hospital of Singapore, with 15 EXPERIENCE YEARS YEARS as a consultant colorectal surgeon, before moving to private practice. As such, he is a highly EXPERIENCE YEARS d physician, well versed in both cancer and benign diseases, proctology, advanced surgical endoscopic and functional bowel disorders such as constipation and incontinence, laparoscopic and robotic surgery.

Dr Tsang Bih Shiou Charles is a member of the Singapore Society of Colorectal Surgeons and an American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery International Fellow. He is also a member of the Society for Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia’s Board of Governors. Dr. Tsang is very passionate about teaching undergraduates and postgraduates at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and is currently an Associate Professor of Surgery.He was instrumental in launching a highly successful and competitive Colorectal Surgery Fellowship training program at NUH that has supported multiple surgeons from ASEAN, China, India and the UK over the years. In 2010, in partnership with Cedar-Sinai Hospital, Los Angeles, he also began the active Annual Colorectal Postgraduate Week at NUHS.

Dr Tsang also has an outstanding history in science, having obtained grants from A*STAR and EXPLOIT. He has published and co-authored several articles and has contributed to many book chapters in peer reviewed journals. He is a member of the Korean Journal of Coloproctology’s editorial board, as well as a reviewer of the Disorder of Colon and Rectum journal and the British Journal of Surgery.

At several international events, Dr Tsang is also a regular speaker for his EXPERIENCE YEARS in treating complex anal fistula and colorectal cancer. In endo-rectal and endo-anal ultrasound imaging, for which he is a recognized world expert, one of his areas of interest is.

Dr Tsang Bih Shiou Charles has received many awards, including the People’s Association’s Committed Voluntary Service to the Community for five years in 2003 and the National University Hospital’s Outstanding Service Star and Gold Award in 2008 and 2009, respectively. He is currently an SGH, SingHealth, Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and Jurong Health System visiting consultant.
