Biography

Dr Tan Ter Chyan worked as a surgeon in the Department of Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery, National University Hospital from 2002 to 2012. He was a specialist hand surgeon in the Department of Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery (HRM) from 2005 to 2007 and a consultant from 2007. to 2012. He was the Postgraduate Director and was involved in training the advanced Hand Surgery trainees in the national program. He was also the first Associate Program Director for the National Residency Program in Hand Surgery. Dr Tan has a clinical interest in peripheral nerve surgery, especially brachial plexus surgery, stroke, cerebral palsy, and surgical rehabilitation of the upper limb in tetraplegia. His other clinical interest is in minimally-invasive surgery of the hand and upper limb especially wrist arthroscopy and endoscopic peripheral nerve surgery. Dr Tan has been an invited speaker for local, regional and international meetings. Dr Tan is currently the Chairman of the Chapter of Hand Surgeons, College of Surgeons, Singapore. Dr Tan Ter Chyan graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dublin in 1995, and became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2001. He was awarded the Master of Medicine, Orthopedics by the National University of Singapore in 2002. He obtained his specialist accreditation by the Ministry of Health (Singapore) as a Hand Surgeon in 2005. Following that, Dr Tan was awarded the Higher Manpower Development Program for 2006 and was a clinical fellow at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney in 2007 with the Department of Hand Surgery and Peripheral Nerve Surgery, University of Sydney. Dr Tan’s specialty interests are brachial plexus surgery, cerebral palsy, endoscopic peripheral nerve surgery, minimally invasive surgery of the hand and upper limb, peripheral nerve surgery, stroke, surgical rehabilitation of the upper limb in tetraplegia, and wrist arthroscopy.
