EXPERIENCE YEARS
Dr Tan Siah Heng James is a neurosurgeon practicing in Singapore at Gleneagles Hospital and Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital. He is a subspecialist in the surgical treatment of degenerative spinal disorders of the cervical and lumbar spine and specializes in minimally invasive procedures such as the use of radiofrequency for neck and back pain. Additionally, he has clinical EXPERIENCE YEARS in minimally invasive endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery, a technique used to remove pituitary tumors. Dr Tan also addresses a variety of other disorders, including back and neck aches, disk replacements, prolapsed disks, meningiomas (tumors between the skull and brain), radicular pain (caused by spinal nerve root injury), spine degeneration, fusion, and pain, and spondylosis (spine degeneration).
Dr Tan Siah Heng James was previously the head of the National Neuroscience Hospital’s spine program (NNI). He was Asia’s first surgeon to use artificial cervical disc implants in spinal surgery and has since performed such procedures on a routine basis. Additionally, he was one of the pioneers in the use of facet joint radiofrequency therapy for neck and back pain. He previously worked as a visiting consultant at the National University Hospital and continues to do so at NNI. Dr Tan Siah Heng James graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1989 with a bachelor’s Qualification. He then became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in both Edinburgh and Glasgow, United Kingdom. He then began neurosurgical training at NNI’s Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) in 1995, before moving to London in 1997 to complete a specialist training program at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and Charing Cross Hospital in the United Kingdom. In 1999, he completed a fellowship in surgical neurology in the United Kingdom. Dr Tan Siah Heng James received a Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) fellowship from the Singapore Ministry of Health in 2003 for additional subspecialist training in spinal surgery at the Schulthess Klinik in Zurich, Switzerland. Since 2000, he has been practicing medicine for over 30 years and has completed over 10,000 cervical spinal operations. Dr Tan is a frequent speaker and lecturer at regional and international conferences.
