EXPERIENCE YEARS

  • Dr Tan Chyn Hong is an orthopaedic surgeon at Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital. He has a particular interest in shoulder, knee, and elbow problems.
Dr Tan was the first in Singapore to perform implantless arthroscopic rotator cuff shoulder surgery. He was Singapore’s first surgeon to perform keyhole rotator cuff repair without the use of metal or plastic implants.
Prior to entering private practice, he was the Head of the Division of Sports Medicine at National University Hospital. He oversaw a team of orthopaedic surgeons, a sports physician, and a sports therapist who provided athletes with extensive medical treatment. Global athletes (in sports such as basketball, netball, canoeing, judo, and taekwondo) and professional footballers were among his patients.
  • Dr Tan Chyn Hong was appointed by the Ministry of Health in 2007 to serve on a workgroup charged with developing national clinical practice guidelines for the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee. In the same year, he received the Academy of Medicine Singapore’s inaugural College of Surgeons Gold medal for becoming the most outstanding nominee in the Royal College of Surgeons (Orthopaedic Surgery) Edinburgh fellowship review.
He completed a fellowship in Australia, where he obtained further training in shoulder, knee, and elbow subspecialties. In Australia, he treated professional athletes who sustained sports injuries as well as patients who suffered from degenerative conditions such as rotator cuff tears and shoulder and knee arthritis.
Dr Tan Chyn Hong’s passion for sports began in 1987, when he entered the Raffles Institution Judo Club. He was a 1991 SEA Games national judo representative and continues his involvement in sports by treating injured athletes and rehabilitating them. He continued his Qualification in Australia, where he received subExpert In training in shoulder, knee, and elbow injuries, working with professional athletes as well as everyday people who have an exceptional passion for their sport.
