EXPERIENCE YEARS
- Dr Tan Choon Hian Roger is a nephrologist who practices at Singapore’s Gleneagles Hospital. Although he treats a variety of kidney disorders, he is particularly skilled in dialysis, kidney transplantation, chronic kidney failure, and hypertension. He is also passionate about treating inflammatory kidney disorders such as lupus nephritis, which is an autoimmune disease-related inflammation of the kidney.
Dr Tan Choon Hian Roger is one of the few transplant physicians who has EXPERIENCE YEARS performing high-risk kidney transplants, including those involving ABO incompatibility, crossmatch positivity, and second kidney transplants. He was also the first renal specialist in Singapore to use peritoneoscopy to insert a peritoneal catheter. This minimally invasive procedure reduces hospital stays for patients with kidney disease, such as chronic kidney disease or renal failure.
Dr Tan Choon Hian Roger graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1997. He then completed an internal medicine residency program at the National University Hospital (NUH) and Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). Additionally, he received advanced training in renal medicine at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH). - Dr Roger spearheaded several quality management programs during his time at SGH. He was a part of the task group that drafted guidelines for medical practice at the Singapore Ministry of Health. He was also the honorary treasurer and honorary secretary of the Singapore Society of Nephrology in 2008 and 2009. He is also a consultant to the National Kidney Foundation as a visiting consultant.
Dr Tan has been invited to train fellow renal physicians in peritoneal dialysis in a number of regional centers, including Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand. Dr Tan has also been actively involved in educating the public about the prevention and treatment of kidney diseases and renal failure through public symposiums.
