Professional Statement

Dr Vijan is an Interventional Cardiologist who consults. He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and has received training from the prestigious Texas Heart Hospital in Houston. He previously served as a Senior Registrar in cardiology at the University of Leicester, and subsequently as a Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Cardiology. Dr. Vijan was instrumental in the development of catheter ablation techniques for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias and the establishment of cardiac arrhythmia services in Leicester. In the United Kingdom, he was the first to implant an automatic cardiovascular defibrillator for malignant ventricular arrhythmia. Dr Vijan has implanted Bombay’s first AICD. He also pioneered the dual chamber pacing technique in India and was the first to implant a biventricular pacemaker in patients with heart failure. Dr Suresh Vijan has been a pioneer in Interventional Cardiology since 1993 when he implanted intracoronary stents. He has been designated as the Proctor for training cardiologists in coronary angioplasty with stent implantation technique. He has led live angioplasty training programs in China and Vietnam. In 1997, he introduced the Septal ablation technique for hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy.
