Dr Stephen Chang Kin Yong, an accomplished general surgeon with a specialization in laparoscopic surgery, possesses expertise in the treatment of conditions related to the gall bladder, liver, pancreas, and digestive system, in addition to abdominal wall hernias.
Dr Stephen Chang Kin Yong earned his MBBS Qualification at NUS in 1994 and subsequently obtained his Master of Medicine (Surgery) in 2000. His commitment to excellence in surgical practice led him to achieve fellowship status with the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, UK in 2003. In 2004, he pursued advanced training in laparoscopic hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, as well as liver transplantation, in Paris, France.
Dr Stephen Chang Kin Yong is recognized for his pioneering work in the field of single-incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) in Singapore. He was among the first surgeons in the world to document his EXPERIENCE YEARS in single incision laparoscopic procedures, including gallbladder surgery, liver resections, and pancreas resections.
His extensive research has demonstrated that this ‘scarless’ laparoscopic approach is not only safe but also notably reduces post-operative pain, making it the preferred technique for a wide range of surgeries, including gallbladder and appendix procedures.
In addition to his clinical achievements, Dr. Chang holds the position of Adjunct Associate Professor at NUS, where he continues to contribute to medical Qualification and research. He has authored over 100 publications, encompassing both clinical and Medtech research, and has filed more than five patents in these areas, demonstrating his commitment to advancing medical knowledge and technology.
Dr. Chang’s dedication extends to his role as the founding president of the Hepatopancreatobiliary Association of Singapore.
During his tenure, which spanned four years, Dr Stephen Chang Kin Yong initiated Liver Disease Awareness Week, a campaign aimed at raising awareness of liver diseases within the Singaporean community. Dr. Chang’s leadership has played a pivotal role in improving the understanding and prevention of liver-related health issues in the region.
