  Dr Shim previously practiced clinical gastroenterology and general hepatology at Singapore General Hospital (SGH), where he was the head of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Centre and is now a visiting consultant. Dr Shim is an enthusiastic instructor who was recently named adjunct assistant professor at Duke-NUS Medical School.
• He earned a Bachelor of Medicine from the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom in 2007 and was certified as a gastroenterology specialist in 2015. In 2016, he was awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Health, Singapore, to pursue an advanced fellowship under the mentorship of Professors Remo Panaccione and Cynthia Seow in Calgary, Canada, home to one of the largest Inflammatory Bowel Disease units in the world.
  Dr Shim has authored several peer-reviewed papers and book chapters that have been written in prestigious medical journals. He has also been invited to serve as a peer reviewer for medical journals and has been a key participant in a number of clinical trials. These accomplishments demonstrate his clinical expertise in the field of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), especially in the management of patients with complex disease, the use of novel therapies, and pregnancy in IBD.
  Dr Shim serves on medical advisory boards and is a frequent faculty/speaker at local and regional medical conferences. During his tenure at SGH, he was a vital member of the small bowel endoscopy service and also contributed to the colorectal cancer screening service.
  As a true believer in holistic, patient-centered treatment, he is well-liked by his patients and has earned several service-related awards for his commitment to patient care and service excellence.
