Prof. Dr Sarman Singh received his MBBS in 1982 from the prestigious King George Medical College (now University) in Lucknow. Following that, he relocated to Delhi and completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Dr. RML Hospital in New Delhi, as well as an MD Qualification in Clinical Microbiology at another prestigious institution (PGIMER) in Chandigarh.
He entered the country’s premier medical Hospital, the All India Hospital of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, where he has held various positions and now heads the Department of Clinical Microbiology and Molecular Medicine. His main area of expertise is infectious disease diagnostics. He is widely regarded as the foremost authority on TORCH infections (diseases caused by Toxoplasma, Rubella, Cytomegalovirus, and others), which are critical during pregnancy, in AIDS patients, and in organ transplant recipients.
He has also worked extensively on HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, and is now a national level specialist in Tuberculosis (with and without AIDS). He counsels, tests, and advises patients on the appropriate course of action. Prof. Dr Sarman Singh is a member of over 20 national and international scientific bodies and a Fellow of over 7 national and international academies. In addition to serving on the editorial boards of over 40 national and international journals, he is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Laboratory Physicians.
Dr. Singh has received recognition from over 13 national and international scientific/academic bodies for his excellent contribution to medical science.
Dr. Singh has supervised 17 PhDs, 16 MDs, and over 40 MSc theses. He has published 6 books, 46 book chapters, and over 310 research papers in national and international journals such as CELL, PNAS, and LANCET, with over 7400 citations, an i10 index of 161, and an H-index of 41.
