Dr Ravishankar Asokkumar

Dr Ravishankar Ashokkumar is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopist at Singapore General Hospital (SGH) and Clinical Assistant Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School, Singapore. He is experienced in the management of common and complex gastrointestinal disorders including obesity, colonic polyps resection, colon cancer screening, primary gastric and esophageal cancer resection, gastrointestinal bleeding, gastroesophageal reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome, dyspepsia, liver disease, and liver disease. .

He established the first bariatric endoscopic program for weight loss at SGH, an obesity center in Singapore. Under this program, he performs minimally invasive endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty procedures for weight loss, primary obesity surgery endoluminal procedures, gastric balloon, post gastric bypass stoma reduction and post gastric sleeve resuturing procedures. He is the first gastroenterologist in Singapore to be recognized as a National Fellow by the World Obesity Federation.

Dr. Ravi Shankar graduated with MBBS (Gold) from Madras Medical College, India in 2007 and completed Masters in Internal Medicine (MRCP, UK) in 2011. He began his ACGME-I accredited residency training in Gastroenterology at Singapore General. Hospital and became a specialist in Gastroenterology and Hepatology in 2016. He completed his gastroenterology specialist certification by the Royal College of Physicians, UK in 2016. He received further training in Gastroenterology and completed his fellowship in Bariatric and Advanced Therapeutic End Therapies. HM Sanchinaro University Hospital, Madrid, Spain.

Dr. Ravi Shankar has published extensively in peer-reviewed, high-impact factor medical journals and authored several book chapters. He has collaborated internationally and is regularly invited faculty at medical conferences locally and internationally. He is a faculty member of the Gastroenterology, Senior Residency Training Program and an instructor for advanced endoscopic procedures for fellows.

Dr Ravishankar has held academic appointments at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Duke-NUS Medical, and NTU Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine.
