In 1996, Dr Chhajed earned his medical Qualification from the University of Mumbai, India. In 1998, he was a Fellow at The Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, Australia, in the Department of Respiratory Medicine. Until 2002, he remained a Fellow in thoracic medicine & lung transplantation at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney. Dr Chhajed entered the Department of Pulmonary Medicine, University Hospital of Basel, Switzerland in 2003 as a Clinical and Research Consultant after a brief stint in the Department of Thoracic Surgery at Chiba University Hospital, Japan. In 2007, he was awarded the title of Privat Dozent. In 2008, he returned to Mumbai, India, where he was the Director of the Respiratory Medicine Department at Fortis Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi. From 2006 to 2010, he served as Secretary of the European Association for Bronchology & Interventional Pulmonology. He was the Chairperson of the West Zone of the Indian Chest Society from 2013 to 2017, a member of the Governing Body of the Indian Chest Society from 2018 to 2021, the Secretary of the Interventional Pulmonology Group of the European Respiratory Society from 2015 to 2018, and the Chairman of the Interventional Pulmonology Group of the European Respiratory Society from 2018 to 2021.
