Dr Poon Yew Hee Donald is a surgical oncologist who works at Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital.

In his general oncology practice, Dr. Poon handles all forms of tumours, and he has a particular interest in geriatric oncology, which treats elderly cancer patients. He has a particular interest in sarcoma, melanoma, cancer of the colon, colorectal cancer, cancer of the liver, cancer of the pancreas, cancer of the bile duct, tumors of the gastrointestinal stromal and neuroendocrine/carcinoid tumors.

Dr Poon Yew Hee Donald graduated in 1996 with a Qualification from the National University of Singapore. Before beginning his private practice in 2010, he obtained advanced specialist training in medical oncology at the National Cancer Centre, Singapore (NCCS), and subsequently practiced at NCCS.

From 2008 to 2010, Dr Poon was Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School. From 2007 to 2009, he was the honorary medical director of the Singapore Cancer Society and was the founding president of the Singapore Geriatric Oncology Society. He developed a geriatric oncology program specializing in the care of elderly patients with all forms of cancer, and won the SingHealth HMDP Geriatric Oncology Training Award in 2006 at the Moffitt Cancer Centre, USA.

Dr Poon Yew Hee Donald was previously awarded a grant of more than $1 million by the National Medical Research Council (NMRC) as a co-principal investigator for liver cancer research. At the prestigious 2008 American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Conference, his study in geriatric oncology was chosen for oral presentation. In numerous investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored clinical trials, he is an active clinical investigator.

Dr. Poon is frequently invited to talk at various regional and international Expert In conferences, such as the Neuroendocrine Tumour Preceptorship Program of the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO), and his oncology research work has been published in more than 40 scientific papers in international oncology journals such as Cancer, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and Lancet Oncology with a high impact factor.

Dr Poon Yew Hee Donald received the Humanity Healthcare Award in 2006 and the STAR Outstanding Service Award in 2009 in appreciation of his patient care efforts.
