EXPERIENCE YEARS
- Dr Peng Chan Wearn Benedict earned an honors Qualification in 1996 from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom. He also earned a Master of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery (Singapore) and an FRCS in Orthopaedics (Edinburgh). He then completed a Spine Surgery Fellowship at New York’s prestigious Hospital for Special Surgery and Hospital for Joint Diseases. Dr Peng began his career as a Consultant Spine Surgeon at Singapore General Hospital, which performs the majority of Singapore’s spine surgeries. His surgical EXPERIENCE YEARS is limited to degenerative disorders, deformity, injuries, cancers, and infections of the spine.
Dr Peng’s philosophy is to always conduct a thorough evaluation of his patients’ conditions and to provide them with the most suitable and reliable treatment options. Dr Peng often performs minimally invasive spine surgery, motion preservation surgery with dynamic stabilization and dynamic fusion technology, artificial disc replacement, and correction of spinal deformity. Microdiscectomy and percutaneous discectomy for slipped discs, interspinous system stabilization for spinal stenosis, spinal injections for neck and back pain, and vertebroplasty / kyphoplasty for spinal fractures are all minimally invasive procedures that he conducts as day surgery and thus do not require hospitalization.
Dr Peng Chan Wearn Benedict is a spine surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery. He is regularly invited to talk at regional and international conferences about his expertise and surgical procedures in minimally invasive spine surgery. Additionally, he is often invited to teach advanced spine surgical procedures in hospitals around the world. He has presented his findings in respected spine journals on minimally invasive spine surgery procedures such as minimally invasive spine fusion and percutaneous endoscopic discectomy. - Dr Peng Chan Wearn Benedict Chan Wearn Benedict is a pioneer in spine surgery that makes use of motion-preserving technologies such as artificial disc replacement and dynamic spine stabilization. In comparison to conventional techniques, these modern surgical techniques enable patients to retain spinal motion following spine surgery. Dr Peng’s findings and EXPERIENCE YEARS with these emerging technologies have been discussed at international meetings and have been written in spine journals.
Dr Peng Chan Wearn Benedict is an active researcher and serves on the AOSpine (Asia-Pacific) Research Committee, which conducts and coordinates research in the Asia-Pacific region. He is also an expert reviewer for a number of international publications.
Dr Peng Chan Wearn Benedict is a Clinical Instructor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and a Mentor for the Advanced Specialist Training Program in Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a member of the North American Spine Society, the American Orthopaedic Society for Spine Surgery, and the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery. He is also a recipient of the Singapore General Hospital’s Service with A Heart Award for his compassionate attitude toward his patients.
