EXPERIENCE YEARS
Dr Ooi Choon Jin is a gastroenterologist who practices at Singapore’s Gleneagles Hospital. Nutrition and the treatment of disorders affecting the stomach, intestines, liver, gall bladder, and bile duct are among his clinical specialties. He performs diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy, colonoscopy, balloon-assisted enteroscopy, and capsule endoscopy on a routine basis. Dr Ooi graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1989 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. In 1994, he earned a higher Qualification from the United Kingdom’s Royal College of Physicians. He is a fellow of the Edinburgh-based Royal College of Physicians. From 1998 to 2000, he received training at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School’s Center for the Study of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. Dr Ooi previously served as the head of the Singapore General Hospital’s (SGH) Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology from 2010 to 2012. He continues to work at SGH’s Inflammatory Bowel Disease Centre as a visiting consultant.
Dr Ooi served as chairman of the Academy of Medicine of Singapore’s Chapter of Gastroenterologists from 2011 to 2015. He was also an associate professor of clinical medicine at NUS’s Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. He is currently a part-time associate professor at Duke-NUS Medical School. Dr Ooi’s research interests include inflammatory bowel disease (UC and Crohn’s disease), malabsorption, and helicobacter pylori-related disorders. He has written in a variety of journals, including Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Pathology, Annals of Academic Medicine (Singapore), Singapore Medical Journal, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Gastroenterology, Current Opinion in Gastroenterology, and the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, and Physics.
