Dr Ng Kok Heong Alvin is a nephrologist who works at Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital.

Dr Ng Kok Heong Alvin is specialized in the management of a broad variety of kidney-related disorders, including general nephrology, transplantation and glomerulonephritis.

Dr Ng Kok Heong Alvin graduated in 2002 from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and completed his internal medicine basic training in 2007. Later, at many hospitals, including Auckland City Hospital (ACH), North Shore Hospital (NSH), and Middlemore Hospital, he underwent advanced training in renal medicine (MH). He collaborated with ACH and the Home Hemodialysis Facilities and Outpatient SaPhonelite Hemodialysis at MH, alongside the Auckland Renal Transplant Community.

Dr Ng Kok Heong Alvin received his fellowship in 2010 from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and was subsequently assigned to the NSH as a consultant nephrologist.

Dr Ng Kok Heong Alvin returned to Singapore in 2012 and entered the renal medicine department at Changi General Hospital (CGH). He was named director of peritoneal dialysis, chair of the Eastern Community Health Outreach Initiative for Patient Qualification in Chronic Kidney Disease Prevention, and chair of the CGH Committee on Morbidity and Mortality.

Dr Ng’s other activities included being a member of the MOH Peritoneal Dialysis Workgroup, the Medical Knowledge Committee, the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, and the Evaluation Committee of Critical Reportable Incidents.

From 2017, he served as a member of the Singapore Society of Nephrology Executive Committee and for the 18th Asian Colloquium in Nephrology Conference in 2019. He was an invited judge for the 2017 Annual Scientific Meeting of the Singapore Society of Nephrology and the Renal Residents’ Study and Retreat of the Singapore Society of Nephrology in April 2016.

In clinical trials on experimental medications used to prolong the development of chronic kidney disease and on a new treatment for lupus nephritis, Dr Ng was an investigator. He has presented the findings of emerging peritoneal dialysis patients at international meetings and has written many research papers in both local and international journals.

Dr Ng Kok Heong Alvin has been actively involved in the teaching of undergraduates, postgraduate doctors and nurses in medical Qualification and training. He was a senior clinical lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in NUS and an assistant assistant professor at the Dukes-NUS School of Medicine. Dr Ng has also participated in many programs, such as the SingHealth Internship, the SingHealth Junior Residency, and the Senior Residency programs for Renal Medicine.

He has received several awards throughout the course of his career, such as the Singapore Medical Journal Reviewer Appreciation Award (2019), the SingHealth Silver Award for Outstanding and Commendable Service (2019), the CGH Best Service Award (2015), and the Silver Award for Outstanding and Commendable Service from the Eastern Health Alliance (2014).
