Dr Mona Khurana received her medical graduate Qualification from Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla (H.P), in 1991, with first place and a Gold medal in Surgery.
She earned her MS in Ophthalmology from Dayanand Medical College in Ludhiana, as well as her Fellowship in Glaucoma from the Sankara Nethralaya Medical Research Foundation. In 2013, she also completed an observership in the glaucoma department at the Bascom Palmer Eye Hospital in Miami, Florida (USA).
She is currently a Senior Consultant in the Medical Research Foundation’s Glaucoma section. She is also a Senior Teaching Assistant for the Harvard T H Chan School of Public Health, Executive and Continuing Medical Qualification, Boston’s Principles and Practice of Clinical Research Program (USA).
Dr Mona Khurana has glaucoma-related posts, book chapters, and edited books written in peer-reviewed journals. She has also acted as a peer reviewer for a variety of respected journals. She has contributed to glaucoma recommendations as well as the World Glaucoma Consensus on glaucoma surgery. She has given papers and lectures at numerous national and international conferences. She has also served as a supervisor for postgraduates, fellows, and MPhil students.
In 2011, she received the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology’s (ARVO) Developing World Eye Researcher Award. In 2014, she received the Ruby Banik award for the best clinical study. She also won the Outstanding Senior Teaching Assistant Award from the Principles and Practice of Clinical Research Program (Harvard T H Chan School of Public Health, Boston (USA)) in 2019 and 2020.
Imaging in glaucoma, glaucoma drainage devices, exfoliation glaucoma, secondary glaucomas, patient recorded results and insights, adherence and persistence to drugs, visual therapy, teaching, and research methods are some of her research interests. She still enjoys painting in her spare time and has a Diploma in Fine Arts.
