Professional Statement

Dr Mohan is a 1974 graduate and 1978 postgraduate of Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai, where he served for four years as a Lecturer and Reader. At TATA Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, he received training in GI Onco Surgery. Dr Koppikar worked in England until 1994 under renowned GI and laparoscopic surgeons after earning FRCS (Edin). During his time in the United Kingdom, he presented papers on the topic of laparoscopic exploration of the common bile duct. Dr Mohan returned to India in 1994 and has been in private practice ever since, specializing in minimally invasive surgery and gastrointestinal surgery. He has performed nearly 4,000 minimally invasive procedures, many of which are fundamental. He taught Minimal Access at Somaiya Medical College and was affiliated with the Ethicon Hospital of Surgical Qualification (EISE) and the Centre for Minimal Access Surgery for Training (C-MAST). He has trained many postgraduates in Minimal Access Surgery and was responsible for establishing the Minimal Access Surgery Department at Fortis Hospital Mulund, Mumbai’s most successful model, in 2003.
