Dr Low Wong Kein Christopher is an ear, nose and throat surgeon. He works at two hospitals in Singapore. Dr. Smith specializes in the treatment of ear problems and hearing loss in children and adults, in particular the cochlear implant, a medical device used for impaired inner ears.

He has conducted hundreds of cochlear implant surgeries, including in certain countries, such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and China.

Dr Low Wong Kein Christopher obtained his MD in Singapore and then his surgical training at the National University of Singapore (NUS). After completing specialist training in ENT, he was awarded fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK.

After school, Dr Low worked at Kogarah Hospital in Australia, treating conditions such as hearing loss, vertigo, tinnitus, ear infections, and tumours. He has earned his Doctorate in Physiology for his studies in otology.

Dr Low Wong Kein Christopher was previously the Head of ENT and Director of the Centre for Hearing and Auditory Implants at the Singapore General Hospital . (SGH). He also frequently ran clinics as a visiting specialist at the Kandang Kerbau Children’s and Women’s Hospital (KKH), which honed his skills in treating children with various ENT disorders, such as tonsil infections, pressure and fluid build-up in the ear and frequent nose-bleeding. He was instrumental in the creation of the nation’s standardized newborn hearing screening statute.

Dr Low is an active participant in the teaching of ear, nose and throat physicians. He was a member of SingHealth’s ENT surgery department’s training committee, and was a trustee of the Singapore Otorhinolaryngology Society.

He is the former president of the ASEAN Academy of Neuro-otology and Audiology, and a founding member. He is the president of the Singapore Association for the Deaf, a member of the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, and also a commissioner for the Public Utilities Board.

Dr Low studies how to improve care for patients suffering from various ENT disorders. For instance, he was the first to perform and publish a study regarding the anatomy and function of the facial nerve in relation to ear surgery.

He is a prolific author of peer-reviewed scientific papers on a number of different subjects including hearing, vertigo, nasal cancer, blocked nose, headaches and snoring.

Aside from his clinical practice, Dr Low is a professor at NUS and Duke.

Dr Low Wong Kein Christopher is also active in volunteer work and has obtained assistance from abroad in treating ENT disorders.
