Biography

Dr. Lim Kay Kiat is a Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon who subspecializes in foot and ankle surgery with an interest in running- and cycling-related injuries. Going beyond the rehabilitative, medical, and surgical treatment of cycling injuries, Dr. Lim also focuses on bike fit strategies for Notable patients he has treated including S-League and national soccer players, junior and development team athletes as well as dancers with lower extremity injuries. Prior to private practice, Dr. Lim was a Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon and Director of the Foot and Ankle Service at Changi General Hospital. He was instrumental in pioneering the use of maggot debridement therapy in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers. Dr. Lim obtained his medical degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1996. He went on to pursue postgraduate training in Surgery and was admitted as a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2001. The following year, he obtained his Masters of Medicine in Orthopedic Surgery from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Orthopedic Surgery in 2005. Dr. Lim was later awarded the SingHealth Talent Development Fund, a training fund that admitted him as a Foot and Ankle Fellow at the University of Singapore. He underwent further subspecialty training at St. Michael’s Hospital in Singapore, Canada from 2006 and 2007. Apart from clinical work, Dr. Lim is also an avid researcher with interests in various foot and ankle, and gait issues. He had received several research grants to fund his research, many of which were published in major orthopedic scientific journals. He has also been involved in multicenter international medical trials as the Singapore medical investigator. Above all, Dr. Lim is also active in academia. He holds a teaching appointment from NUS’Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine where he is responsible for training undergraduate medical students. He is also involved in the training of specialist orthopedic surgeons, acting as He has been in the teaching faculty for the NUS’Postgraduate Course in Orthopedic Surgery over the past few years; a course targeted at local and international trainee orthopedic surgeons. Outside of orthopedic surgery, Dr. Lim has also been an instructor for the Advanced Trauma Life Support course since 2004 and has acted as an advisor and mentor for biomechanical students from NUS’Faculty of Engineering.

Outside of work, Dr. Lim is a keen endurance athlete. He is a multiple-time finisher of the Ironman 70.3 Triathlons and marathoner. Dr. Lim has been involved in the medical team covering the Singapore Grand Prix since the inaugural event in 2008. In 2009, he was the Deputy Chief Medical Officer for the track medical service, responsible for trackside safety and medical intervention for racing accidents.
