EXPERIENCE YEARS
- Dr Lim Hwee Yong is a medical oncologist at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, where he provides cancer patients with specialized and personalized treatment.
Dr Lim also works as a visiting consultant medical oncologist at Singapore’s National Cancer Centre. He earned his medical doctorate from University College Dublin, Ireland’s National University. He completed postgraduate training in Internal Medicine at the University of Hawaii and in Hematology and Medical Oncology at the University of Utah’s Huntsman Cancer Hospital. Dr. Lim is currently board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Lim returned to Singapore in 2010 as a consultant medical oncologist at the National Cancer Centre Singapore and as a consulting oncologist at Changi General Hospital in Singapore. He directs and actively participates in a variety of significant research projects involving a variety of gastro-intestinal and hepato-biliary cancers, as well as neuroendocrine tumors. He was a member of the workgroup that developed peptide receptor radionuclide therapy in Singapore. He chairs the blood transfusion committee and serves on the clinical trials advisory committee at the National Cancer Centre Singapore. He was also the principal investigator on a number of research projects, including those that received funding from Singapore’s prestigious National Medical Research Council.
Dr Lim Hwee Yong is an influential educator of physicians, medical students, and nurses. He is a member of the Medical Oncology Residency Advisory Board, which reviews and advises on the framework of medical oncology training and serves as an examiner for medical oncologist trainee exit exams. He has written in peer-reviewed journals, contributed a book chapter, and served as an editor for the book Neuroendocrine Tumors. He teaches medical students and oncology and palliative care nurses at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and Duke-National University of Singapore. - From 2012 to 2013, Dr Lim Hwee Yong served as President of the Singapore Society of Oncology. He helped create the Singapore Hepatopancreatobiliary Association. Additionally, Dr. Lim is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the European Society of Medical Oncology, and the Singapore Medical Association.
