Dr Leow Chon Kar graduated from Bristol University, England. He entered John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford and the Nuffield Department of Surgery, University of Oxford for his higher surgical training after receiving his Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. While in Oxford, Dr Leow was awarded a Medical Research Council Training Fellowship and spent 3 years studying pancreatic islet transplantation and its effect on diabetes and its complications at the Nuffield Department of Surgery, University of Oxford. Part of this research allowed Dr Leow to receive a doctorate Qualification in medicine.

Dr Leow Chon Kar also held the post of Fellow in Transplantation at the Oxford Transplant Centre for two years, in addition to completing his higher surgical training in general and vascular surgery. He was fully qualified as a renal transplant surgeon under Professor Sir Peter Morris during that time.

Dr Leow Chon Kar entered the Department of Surgery at the Chinese University of Hong Kong as a Visiting Lecturer in Surgery with a special focus on liver, pancreas, gall bladder and colon surgery to further expand his expertise in general surgery. He was invited to join the Department permanently at the end of the year and eventually became Associate Professor of Surgery and Head of the Hepato-Pancreaticobiliary and Colorectal Surgery Division at the University of Hong Kong in China. All aspects of complex surgery on the liver, gall bladder, pancreas and colon, liver transplantation and advanced laparoscopic surgery for benign and malignant hepatobiliary and colon disorders are included in the surgical work performed by the division.

Subsequently, as Associate Professor of Surgery and Senior Consultant Surgeon at the National University Hospital, Dr Leow was head-hunted at the National University of Singapore (NUS) (NUH). At the Department of Surgery, NUH and NUS, Dr Leow was charged with establishing and improving the Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery Section. Dr Leow also became the Deputy Director of The Cancer Hospital in addition to holding the above roles.

Dr Leow Chon Kar stepped down from his position as Associate Professor of Surgery, NUS, Senior Consultant Surgeon, NUH and Deputy Director of The Cancer Hospital in July 2004. Dr. Leow founded his private surgical practice in September 2004 in order to devote all his time to his professional passion: serving and treating patients.
