Dr Leo Seo Wei is a specialist in ophthalmology which is practised in Singapore. She is licensed to perform many different procedures within the field of ophthalmology, such as cataract surgery, laser procedures and refractive surgery (LASIK).
In addition to ocular surgery, she is especially interested in strabismus surgery for fixing misaligned eyes, pediatric disorders affecting the iris and lens, refractive errors, and learning difficulties in children.
Dr Leo Seo Wei graduated with honors in Medicine from the National University of Singapore in 1996, and completed her Masters in Ophthalmology from NUS in 2000. After completing basic specialist training at the Singapore National Eye Centre, National University Hospital (NUH) and Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), Dr Leo received a Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK in 2001.
Dr Leo Seo Wei earned his Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) award from the Ministry of Health in 2004, during which time he studied at Harvard Medical School in the US. The first fellowship was funded by Kellogg and Michigan University under the supervision of Professors, Monte Del Monte and Steven Archer. I had the opportunity of applying for a fellowship in the prestigious field of paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus in the United States.
Dr Leo Seo Wei has been a senior consultant ophthalmologist at TTSH for several years and helped develop the Department of Ophthalmology and the Children’s Eye Centre at the hospital. She was also the director of a large department at the National Healthcare Community Eye Health Hospital. She is currently, in her role as a senior consultant at TTSH and KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH).
Dr Leo was also a clinical professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine within the National University of Singapore. She was also a member of the Singapore Polytechnic – Manchester University Optometry Qualification programme and was involved with the founding of the American Association for Paediatric Ophthalmology-TianJin Eye Centre Paediatric Ophthalmology fellowship programme.
Dr Leo’s written articles and book chapters have shown success. The researcher has been repeatedly invited to present at national and foreign conferences. She has also done operations live, both globally and at different conferences.
