• Dr Jane Yap Cheng Hoon received her training as a specialist in Internal and Respiratory Medicine at the National University of Singapore (MBBS 1982, Master of Medicine 1987), with a Postgraduate Respiratory attachment at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital, London (1989-1990), and has been a Fellow of the Singapore Academy of Medicine (Respiratory Medicine) since 1991. Between 1995 through 1999, she served as the association’s President. From 1987 to 1995, she was also an active member of the Singapore Thoracic Society’s committee.
• Dr Jane Yap Cheng Hoon assisted in the formulation of STEPS (Singapore Tuberculosis Elimination Programme) in 1997, following a year as Singapore’s representative on the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Tuberculosis Surveillance Team and Tuberculosis Advisory Committee (1996-2000). (1996).
• Prior to entering private practice, she served as Acting Head (1996–1997) of the Tuberculosis Department at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Consultant at the hospital’s Respiratory Department. From 1988 until 2001, she assisted in the management of the Occupational Lung Clinic.
• She served as Chairman of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) Prevention Committee at Mount Alvernia Hospital in 2003, Chairman of the Hospital Infection Control Committee from 2004 to 2007, and a member of the Medical Advisory Board from 2004 to 2006.
• She is the primary author of over 35 publications in national and international journals and has spoken at a number of international conferences. While at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, she worked as a clinical tutor for medical students, doctors, and nurses.
