- Dr Ignatius Mark Hon Wah is a Consultant Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgeon with Ascent Ear, Nose, and Throat Specialist Group and the Director of Sleep Services.
- His areas of expertise include the treatment of snoring, obstructive sleep apnoea, sleep disorders, nasal blockage, thyroid nodules, and head and neck cancers.
- Dr Mark graduated from the National University of Singapore with a medical Qualification in 1994. He completed his ENT specialized training in Singapore as part of the National ENT Training program. He passed the surgical membership examinations and was admitted to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1999. In 2002, he earned a Master of Medicine Qualification in Otolaryngology from NUS and passed the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians of Glasgow’s Fellowship tests in Otolaryngology.
- Dr Ignatius Mark Hon Wah was awarded a SingHealth Health Manpower Development Plan Fellowship in Sleep Surgery at Stanford University in the United States of America in 2005. The Stanford Sleep Disorders Clinic is a world-renowned clinical and research center for sleep medicine, and Stanford was the birthplace of numerous ground-breaking surgical procedures for treating snoring and sleep apnoea. Dr Mark passed the American Board of Sleep Medicine tests in 2006 and is thus recognized as a Sleep Specialist by the American Board of Sleep Medicine, making him one of only a handful Sleep Specialists worldwide and the only ENT Surgeon with this coveted distinction in Singapore.
- Dr Ignatius Mark Hon Wah is an active participant in Qualification and clinical science research, having served as the principle investigator and co-investigator on various projects concerning Obstructive Sleep Apnoea and Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma. He is the author of a book on polysomnography (sleep studies) and has contributed chapters to various textbooks on otorhinolaryngology and sleep medicine. He continues to lecture at numerous sleep medicine and otorhinolaryngology conferences in the Asia Pacific region, as well as teaching medical students and post-graduate ENT residents in Singapore. He is also an active member of the Singapore Sleep Society, serving as Chairperson of the March 2010 Singapore Sleep Awareness Week campaign. He is currently the Society’s Vice-President.
- Dr Ignatius Mark Hon Wah was responsible for directing the Sleep Clinic in the Department of Otolaryngology at the Singapore General Hospital, streamlining the management of patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. He was also on staff at SGH’s Sleep Disorders Unit, treating patients with Sleep Disorders and providing surgical skills to patients requiring surgery for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea and Snoring. The Sleep Disorders Unit is a multidisciplinary team comprised of Neurologists, Respiratory Physicians, Psychiatrists, ENT Surgeons, Dental Specialists, Psychologists, and Sleep Technicians. The Sleep Disorders Unit provides comprehensive outpatient and inpatient care to patients suffering from sleep disorders.
