Qualification & EXPERIENCE YEARS :

  • After graduating from the University of New South Wales, Australia in 1970 and spending 2 years completing his residency in Sydney and Brisbane, Dr Ho Kok Tong returned to join the Singapore Armed Forces as a medical officer. He became a medical trainee and was subsequently appointed lecturer in 1975 and later senior lecturer of the Department of Medicine at the University of Singapore and the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) (SGH).
  • Dr Ho Kok Tong received endoscopy training at the Tokyo Medical and Dental College and at St. Mark’s Hospital in London and later became Head of the Division of Gastroenterology, setting up the endoscopy service at the university’s Department of Medicine.
  • Dr Ho Kok Tong was actively involved in the teaching of medical students, research and offering services to patients at SGH. In 1976, he was awarded the Commonwealth scholarship to serve as a research fellow and an assistant to the world renowned hepatologist, Professor Dame Shelia Sherlock at the Royal Free Hospital in London. He gained considerable expertise in the treatment of liver diseases and has published articles on peptic ulcers, hepatitis, other liver diseases, and diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy and colonoscopy. He has contributed a chapter for a book on the treatment of common gastroenterological problems.
  • In 1981, Dr Ho resigned from his position as senior lecturer and consultant physician and gastroenterologist at SGH and entered private practice at the then newly founded Mount Elizabeth Hospital. His areas of specialization include the diagnosis of peptic ulcers, gastrointestinal infections, diagnostic and clinical treatment of gastrointestinal bleeding, polyps, functional disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, Hepatitis B and C, and other liver diseases.
  • From 1981 to 1995, Dr Ho Kok Tong was appointed visiting consultant to the Ministry of Health and was a member of the accreditations of specialists (gastroenterology) at the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
  • Dr Ho Kok Tong is currently an advisor and medical consultant to the Ren Ci Community Hospital, a voluntary organization.
