Dr Eng Cher Tiew Philip graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1984 with a Bachelor of Medicine, a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Medicine in 1989. He continued to seek advanced training at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, USA and at the University of California, San Diego, USA in pulmonary (lungs) and critical care medicine.
Dr Eng Cher Tiew Philip was appointed head of the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine at the General Hospital of Singapore in 1997. (SGH). He was instrumental in developing the strong relations of the Department with chest radiology, thoracic (chest) and thoracic cancer surgery.
Dr Eng Cher Tiew Philip was president of the 2nd Asia-Pacific Bronchology Congress in Singapore in 2007.
More than 120 peer-reviewed papers and books have been published by Dr Eng. In 2005, in conjunction with the Cambridge University Press, he published a book called ‘Chest X-rays: Illustrated with 100 Events’. In several nations, including the United States, China, Japan, Korea, Australia, India, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam and the Philippines, he has given lectures.
