Dr Chui Chan Hon graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from the National University of Singapore. He then completed his basic surgical training and graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Glasgow with a fellowship diploma in surgery (FRCS). He obtained advanced surgical training from the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, in Paediatric Surgery. He was granted the Certificate of Specialist Accreditation in Paediatric Surgery by the Ministry of Health, Singapore, upon satisfactory completion of the course.
In 1999, at the renowned St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Tennessee, USA, Dr Chui Chan Hon was awarded the Health Manpower Development Program (HMDP) scholarship for a 24-month fellowship program in Paediatric Surgical Oncology. Upon his return, he led the development of Paediatric Surgical Oncology at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH), Singapore. In addition to supplying his patients with cutting-edge surgical methods, he has also built on the study and training of the younger generation of pediatric surgeons.
In 2003, he founded the Children’s Cancer Research Laboratory, studying solid malignancies in childhood. He has made many presentations at international medical conferences and has been widely published in several international and local peer-reviewed journals. He was honoured in 2003 by KKH with the Best Clinical Instructor Award. Dr Chui Chan Hon was one of the pioneering surgeons who established the KKH Minimally Invasive Paediatric Surgery Program.
