For several years, he has also been involved in clinical and translational research and has been the principal or co-investigator in international trials involving the use of new and targeted colorectal and pancreatic cancer therapy medications.

The NUH Groundbreaking Grant for research in warfarin pharmacogenomics was awarded to Dr. Chuah and the inaugural Kobayashi Foundation Award was recognized for his work on serial improvements in the expression of proteins linked to breast cancer in response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy. His academic work, including Gastroenterology, GUT, and Annals of Oncology, has contributed to many first author publications in high-impact medical and oncology journals.

As a clinical cancer specialist and researcher, his work involves investigating the absence of somatic mutations in the VEGFR-2 tyrosine kinase domain in hepatocellular carcinoma, renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer) with osteoarthritis, and the use of the chemotherapy drug docetaxel (Taxotere) with or without ketoconazole in breast cancer, small cell gall bladder cancer with paraneoplastic hyponatremia.
